West Coast Fridays

The good folks at the Shore 104FM and the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel have set up a great concert series – West Coast Fridays, and we’re very happy to be a part of it this week.

Jonas and I and our talented friends and (of late) musical cohorts Hilary Grist and Michael Rush will be taking the stage in the lounge and entertaining as best we can.

I’m thinking of reenacting Mel Brooks’ hotel lounge singing scene from “High Anxiety.”

We’ll be on at 8pm.

BECKstravaganza at the RIO

Our talented friend and frequent musical cohort Noah Walker and his band The Broken Mirrors have put some serious elbow grease into a great night of music.  BECKstravaganza, this Thursday the 17th at the RIO Theatre.

Beck released his newest album exclusively on sheet music.  What a guy!  Noah had the brilliant idea of getting 20 different bands together to perform the album in it’s entirety.  It’s been no light undertaking.  He’s had to transcribe and arrange 20 songs for 20 bands as well as putting the show itself together.

It’s surely a pleasure to be on this stellar bill, including Leah Abramson, Rococode, Hey Ocean, Mother Mother, Jesse Waldman, and just a huge number of talented cats.  Please come out and see this great concert!

Happy holidays!

Hello, and happy mid-December to you.

Here in Vancouver it’s been (as expected) grey and rainy.  After 30 years of living here I’m quite used to creating my own moments of cheer and joy in this somewhat dreary season.

And in keeping with that idea – we have two things sure to brighten your day.

1. A great show TOMORROW night (Saturday December 15th) with The Matinee at VENUE on Granville.  It will be amazing.  It’s an early show (8pm) and we’d love to see you there to dance away some of the winter blues with us.

2. Our love of 80′s pop music is deep.  This Christmas, we’ve decided to embrace the holiday spirit and share with you our rendition of the WHAM! classic “Last Christmas” – please enjoy.

Timmy’s Christmas Telethon airs today!

Jonas and I headed over to the Shaw Towers in the West End of Vancouver with bass-ace Michael Rush to be a part of the Timmy’s Christmas Telethon – it’s an amazing annual fundraiser to help kids in BC living with disabilities.

We’ll be on today December 9th between 6 and 7 on Shaw TV in Vancouver.  Check in and enjoy!

CBC Food Bank Fundraiser

It was an honour and pleasure to perform at CBC Vancouver’s annual Food Bank Fundraiser.   Over $500,000 was raised!  Thank you everyone in BC for making such generous contributions to this much-needed cause at this important time of year.

The good folks at the CBC opened their doors to the public and hosted a live-to-air concert in Studio 700 just off of Hamilton St on Friday  – we even got to share the stage with The Odds!  Their drummer Pat Steward is a frequent Headwater contributor and a great friend of ours.

We put together a pretty darn stellar lineup for the show, featuring Noah Walker on electric guitar, Michael Rush on bass, and  Hilary Grist adding her sublime and wonderful vocals.  Playing with these lovely folks the past couple of weeks has been awesome for Jonas and I.

Thanks for having us, CBC!
